Glenn Close reveals elaborate death plans already underway

At 78, Glenn Close is taking a thoughtful and deliberate look at how she wants to spend the final chapter of her life. The acclaimed actress, who recently appeared in the latest Knives Out film, opened up about deeply personal plans during a candid conversation on the podcast Wiser Than Me with host Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Rather than focusing on the abstract idea of death, Close explained that her attention is centered on how she wants to live during her remaining years. While many people avoid contemplating the end of life, she has approached the subject with clarity and intention, considering what environment would bring her the greatest sense of peace and fulfillment.

Close shared that her reflections are rooted in childhood memories tied to her family’s farm, where her parents owned a small stone cottage. The place left a lasting emotional imprint on her and continues to represent comfort, safety, and happiness. Recalling that home, she said, “They had this wonderful stone cottage on their farm, on their property that I think originally had been a slaughterhouse,” before describing how it was later transformed.

“But it was made into this really cozy cottage. And that was my first memory, in that little cottage,” she recalled. The physical details of the space remain vivid in her mind even decades later. “Stone, it had ivy on the front. It had literally a white picket fence around it, in the middle of a hay field and woods.”

These memories have directly shaped her vision for the future. Close revealed that she intends to build a similar stone cottage behind her current home, inspired by what she describes as the happiest and most meaningful years of her life. The plan is specific and practical, but also deeply emotional—an attempt to recreate a sense of belonging and inspiration from her past.

As she described this vision, it became clear that the cottage represents more than a structure. It symbolizes how she wants to live, where she wants to be, and the values she wants to carry with her into her final years.
