Police Track Suspect After Attack; Investigation Continues in North Charleston
Following the woman’s escape, police began piecing together the suspect’s movements after he fled the scene. Investigators determined the teenager ran from the home and made his way to a Waffle House restaurant on Northwoods Boulevard, a short distance from the residence.
Authorities were alerted when the suspect’s mother contacted emergency services, reporting that her son was “not having a tongue and needing medical assistance.” Emergency responders transported him to Trident Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries. Police later recovered the severed portion of the tongue from the woman’s home and placed it on ice. Officials have not confirmed whether doctors were able to reattach it.
During a search of the area, officers also located a knife matching the victim’s description, supporting her account of the attack. The weapon was collected as evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
The woman contacted police immediately after reaching safety and provided a detailed statement describing the events inside her home. Despite sustaining injuries, she was able to escape before the suspect could continue the assault. Authorities have not released additional details about her condition but confirmed she survived the ordeal.
The case remains under active investigation as officials review evidence and determine appropriate charges. The incident has drawn attention to the dangers of home intrusions and the importance of rapid emergency response. Law enforcement officials have emphasized that residents should report suspicious activity promptly and avoid opening doors when they cannot clearly identify who is on the other side.
As the legal process moves forward, investigators continue working to establish a full timeline of events and ensure accountability for the actions described in the victim’s report.
